How´d you get into the food business?
Unofficially, I first began working in the food business when I was about six years old, during summer vacations visiting my grandparents in Johnstown, PA. My grandparents owned a sports bar and lounge where they served everything from pizza to fries and a perfectly grilled NY strip steak. My sister and I would help take customers´ lunch orders . . . until it got so busy my grandfather would sternly "advise" us to sit down and quietly eat our own lunch.
What´s the first meal you ever cooked for a date?
How´d it work out? Shrimp scampi, and it was awful! I was 19, living in Los Angeles, and my roommate at the time had invited two of her cute guy friends over, and I volunteered to cook them dinner. I tried to follow a recipe, but I still managed to overcook everything! The shrimp was rubbery and the pasta was all mush! I do remember the guys being so polite; they pretended to like it and kept eating, until, thank God, my roommate insisted we order pizza.
What three things will we always find in your refrigerator?
In my fridge you will always find 1) organic whole milk; 2) string cheese; 3) Budweiser.
What´s one thing no one knows about you?
When I was 19, I guest-starred in an episode of the Power Rangers, playing a character named Shauna who competed against Kim, the pink Power Ranger, in a gymnastics competition.
Describe your perfect night out in Boston.
My perfect night out in Boston is actually staying home during the summer and having friends join us for a lobster bake on our roof deck and then watching a movie like Caddyshack on the 100-inch projector screen.
